PILANSBERG ELEPHANT BACK SAFARIS

We experienced the Sunset Elephan Back Safari

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Is it safe?

Yes

How do I get there?

Drive to sun City and go to the Welcome Centre Game Trackers desk. Sun City is two and a half hours drive from Pretoria North.

How long is the elephant ride?

A slow paced ride of about two and a half to three hours.

Will I see game?

Yes. Antelope, white rhinos, giraffe’s, warthog and more animals live in the reserve. Remember though that the animals roam freely and live on their own schedule. You won’t necessarily see all of them on your elephant safari.

Are the animals well looked after?

Yes. The five elephants are all rescued from Zimbabwe. Pilansberg Elephant Safaris also owns more elephants still living at a sanctuary in
Zimbabwe, so one could say the elephant expats work to help feed their adopted family back home.

What does it cost?

Prices start from R 520.00 per person.

Can I ask questions, is it informative?

Yes, please do ask the rangers questions. They are well trained and want to answer any and all questions before, during and after the ride.

Is the experience family friendly?

Yes, 100% - young and old will learn from and enjoy an elephant safari. The ride is educational, entertaining, relaxing and an all round must do experience.

Did you get your money’s worth?

Yes! It was a great experience. Considering the animals require 24/7 care (there is a full-time team of rangers taking care of them, together with the huge cost of feeding and keeping them healthy), it’s not expensive at all!

Was it worth doing?

You bet! This should be on top of your TO DO list!
We learnt that elephants are amazing and intelligent animals, each with their own individual personalities.

It was truly an unforgettable experience!

WHAT NOT TO DO:

  • Don’t ask to see lions, it wouldn’t be safe if you could see lions while on the back of an elephant.
  • When you feed the elephants and drop some food, DO NOT bend down to pick it up. They are naturally curious and will look down to see what you’re doing, and might accidently bump you with their head or tusks.

We recommend Pilansberg elephant safaris based on their excellent and professional service, the contribution they make to creating employment and giving the elephants the amazing life they deserve.
